Ardian Aliaj put Albania in front (©empics)
Aliaj strike stifles Estonia
Wednesday, 28 April 2004

Estonia 1-1 Albania
Estonia were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Albania despite dominating the second half with a spirited performance. Adrian Aliaj gave the visitors a surprise lead after the break and despite twice hitting the crossbar, Kristen Viikmäe's equaliser in the 81st minute was all Estonia got out of the fixture at Tallinn's A. Le Coq Arena.

Lala efforts
The first half started slowly, and 30 minutes in Altin Lala tried two long-range efforts, only to find Sunderland AFC's Mart Poom alert. From then on, Estonia dominated. Andres Oper shot narrowly wide and Viikmäe went round goalkeeper Elion Lika only to fail to convert from a difficult angle.

Aliaj strikes
Estonia continued to dominate after the break, but it was Albania who took the lead. Just as when the teams met in Albania's 2-0 win in Tirana just under six months ago, it was Aliaj who struck first. A superb pass from Besnik Hasi found the left-back free on his flank and he beat Poom with an accurate shot.

Pressure pays
Estonia were forced to increase the pressure, with Oper going close. Then Raio Piiroja twice hit the bar before Viikmäe equalised with a left-footed shot which went in off the post.

Interesting Car News
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that 6.3 million vehicle crashes each year involve driver distraction. With new technology being implemented in cars, more distractions exist than ever before. So be careful when using car phones, car fax machines and e-mail, and complex audio systems. Remember, your car's main purpose is to get you somewhere.
